CPC Plus 128 kb RAM - prototype

Here is a second video of the small prototype I’m working on. As I mentioned before, we’ve lowered the frame rate to 25 Hz and added hardware-level sprite management to bring the screen to life with signs, trees, cars, and some physics effects for the player’s vehicle.
The graphics are still a bit rough, but the project is starting to take shape. See you soon with more updates.
Take good care of yourselves and your loved ones.

Niiice! Someone remake Chase HQ

Another reason to mod your gx4000 to 128k if you already didn’t.

Looks very cool, I’ve been wondering if you could do something like this to get a faster racer myself. Car could do with a colour change because it currently blends into the road, but that’s pretty minor stuff.

New version !!! , Thanks to @roudoudou for sharing.

Hello everyone.
Today I’m back with an update on the project, featuring a third video and a change of atmosphere.
All the routines have been significantly optimized, and quite a few tweaks have been made.
Obviously, nothing is final yet; this is still a ‘Proof of Concept’ (POC), which is evolving, and quite a few things are still a bit rough around the edges (sprites, graphics, enemies, etc.)
Some sound effects are in place, but they’re not yet fully functional, so there’s no sound in today’s video.
Maybe that’ll be in the next iteration… you never know [ Frédéric Poesy ]

Looking so nice.

I wonder if there’s a technical reason behind the cars being greyscale?

It would be hard to imagine what, but a dark grey car on a dark grey road isn’t a great choice. My guess is the assets have been converted automatically and the AI isn’t smart enough to understand the need for the car to stand out from the road.

My guess is raster colour and screen address splits for the road and sprites over the top especially for the car. Sprites will all share a palette. Sprites perhaps from Atari ST or Amiga and converted for testing!? The font in the top-left for the numbers looks like the one a lot of AI assisted game have so maybe some amount of AI involvement.

The main thing here. Very nice result, very smooth, fast, lovely sense of speed and road undulation, looking forward to playing.

It is growing well.

Cool mod, as this video is in french, for those that are not aware in YouTube you can change the audio to English or what ever you like, the YouTube audio language has got really good.

No AI was used in this prototype, for sure.

It’s looking great. I wonder if the engine can handle two opponent cars on the track at once?

Runs pretty smoothly, and the perspective looks pretty good. I’m no expert on the Plus, but I’d say it makes good use of its hardware. Congratulations.

I’m confused. Is this topic about a mod of a GX-4000 to reach 128k RAM? Or a test of a yet-to-be-named game? Or both? Still, extremely impressive result for a CPC+!

I think it’s almost 100% about an upcoming game idea/test, with a little comment about why we should upgrade our GX4000s to have 128K memory

@XeNoMoRPH I appreciate that you post a lot of interesting info from other source.
It would be even better if you always include context and external links to the source material, not just a video and quoted text.

Keep up the good work!

I hope that, bit by bit, all the users from the previous forum will register here, including the author of this fantastic engine. The original source was a Facebook post; the author, [ Golem13 ], posts it across various Facebook groups. Best regards!!!
