Hello everyone,

I took the current discussions about AI or no AI as an opportunity to actually let AI help me out for once.

**The Situation:**

- For years, I’ve been tinkering with an ELITE-like game. I introduced the current mockup here in the forum under Games. The 3D engine used in it is what I used in this demo (further below).
- So far, I had only bothered to design and store cuboids (= space station in my mockup) or simple structures (= other spaceships in my mockup). Doing that with a sheet of paper is brutally tedious. Yes, CAD programs or Blender exist… but I wasn’t / am not quite there yet.
- I had already pieced together the first few objects by hand. With ChatGPT, creating additional objects was fantastically easy. Does that make this demo objectionable?

Here is my ChatGPT prompt:

> Calculate the 3D coordinates (x,y,z) of a dodecahedron. Assume that the origin is positioned as close to the center as possible. Normalize the coordinates to a signed byte (i.e. from -128 to +127).
> Each face of the dodecahedron can be represented using 3 triangles. Give me the triangles for each dodecahedron face. That is, their edges.
> Use a notation that I can import into a Z80 assembler.

That’s how all the other objects were created, with the exception of the 3-sided pyramid, 4-sided pyramid, and the cuboid. From the house onwards, the 3D coordinates were generated by ChatGPT.

**Notes:**

- It feels like it takes a veeeery long time to load.
- In the browser version, the lamp appears flickering. This is incorrect. Better use a local emulator or the original hardware.

**Controls:**

- Cursor UP = Accelerate the lamp in one direction.
- Cursor DOWN = Accelerate the lamp in the other direction.
- Cursor LEFT = Accelerate object rotation in one direction.
- Cursor RIGHT = Accelerate object rotation in the other direction.
- SPACE = Next object
- M = Mode 0, 1, 2

The special thing about writing software on an old 8-bit computer is, after all:

1. pulling it off, and
2. coping with the system’s limitations.

My first attempt for the demo was rendering a small sun with a spaceship.

Is this considered AI slop just because I had the coordinates generated externally? Hmmm… AI was super practical for generating the 3D coordinates and was super-duper-crazy fast! I don’t know if it’s capable of ruining my hobby / my passion for coding in Z80 assembly???

Ooh I love the mode change!

Nice shading, many triangles, and smooth movement.

From my point of view this is not AI slop, because you only used the AI to help you with a detail, something you could as well have done on your own (and maybe even better for the less-mathematical, more real-world objects), but it would have been more time consuming.

No one knows where the AI found (or copied) the objects from. So for this use case, I expect that at least the use of AI is made transparent. Sadly, the original ownership or copyright for the objects (although they are quite basic) is lost.

Thank you for your perspective. Thanks to your words, I feel more acceptance within myself to clearly label AI-generated content. I will now adhere to this more strictly in my professional life. THANK YOU!
