As you may have noticed, I did some work so that Discourse can show a preview image to a linked DZI (Deep Zoom Image), which is not actually an image but a full-fledged web page.

Now, I was looking forward to link the regular chip decap pictures, like the 40010 Gate Array, we have in the wiki itself, but was greeted by this message:

Which is a bit silly, imho.

I don’t mind linking the images for the post outside the wiki, but that would defeat the purpose of having the wiki…

Fixed (I think). Preview here isn’t working because it’s pretty big. Please try with something else?

Also, it wasn’t silly, that was cloudflare doing its job perfectly and blocking an automated request. 😁

Hmmm…

I see the link, but no preview of the image.

While replying to a topic, it will show a big chunk of the original image instead of a preview or the link.

I’ve found this, that explains a few things: [Images in link preview cards? - 32-Bit Cafe Feedback & Questions - 32-Bit Cafe](https://discourse.32bit.cafe/t/images-in-link-preview-cards/4002)

2026 and forum software around cannot make a preview of an image. Amazing…

You’re using it wrong. og thumbnails work for social content, but when you link a direct image the image appears. Yes it’d be nice to pull the image and render a thumbnail, but that’s a different thing.

Only thing that’s wrong here is you can’t resize the image your linking to manually - gotta play with the settings and see what’s there about this.

In the worst case scenario I can create simple pages for them and add the header data like the DZI images.

Given how Discourse works, I find the preview cards quite nice.

yeah the embed card _is_ nice indeed, but it can’t be used for direct images of course…
