Hi, I already mentioned that I wanted to write a small demo in BASIC. Well, it’s pretty much done now. The link is working for me. Very cool! Some excellent use of colour cycling (particularly the plasma section, and the F1 cars). ---

I can visit and see the video alright, but the server probably blocked the forum ip recognizing it as an automated system. ---

The ban from the server was done manually by me — I banned a few too many IPs I was getting spam from, accidentally banning entire IP ranges in the process… ---

With my CPC 6128 I had a green screen. 27 shades of green, this are 4.8 or almost 5 bits, more than the Plus color space provides. Although here and there I missed the colors a bit I saw on the monitor of a friend’s CPC, I really liked the big number of brightness values that allowed for smooth transitions and shading. Thank you for this demo, it reminds me of this time. Now I see where the discussion about BASIC fonts led to. Surprising for me was the more or less instant change between different fonts, although I have an idea how this has been achieved. ---

The part with the changing fonts will also be expanded — there’s still a bit of RAM free 😉 ---

The demo is ‘growing’ and thriving — and will hopefully be ready in time for CC. I was able to speed up a few routines significantly, so they look much better now. New effects have also been added. Unfortunately, for one particular thing, I don’t know if I have enough free RAM left without having to reload data. Currently, everything is one monolithic block… ---

This coming weekend, I’ll be showing the demo at VCFB in Berlin. It was very well received last weekend — some folks couldn’t believe it was possible in BASIC, let alone on that machine. Yesterday evening, I also heavily optimized a routine — thankfully. The precalculations were really taking a long time. At one point, I also added a “Free RAM” display with `print fre("")`: the record was 6 bytes free — unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take a picture.
