Hello everyone,

Ever since I saw the game “Bard’s Tale” on the Amiga, I’ve wanted to program my own dungeon crawler. Turns out, it’s quite a challenge!

- I’m really terrible at graphics design. So I had the idea to just take a **32x32-pixel tile** and use it for all walls, floors, and ceilings.

- **Animated turning** : Furthermore, I really want to see how you turn in the dungeon. Not just a snap to a new image. On the other hand, this has turned out pretty well so far, especially for an 8-bit computer.

- I also want **animation** and **raised/embossed** graphical **elements** in the dungeon. See the **flickering torches**.

In the end, I’ve come to the conclusion that I won’t continue working on this project for now. I’m not sure if anyone would actually play something like this today to solve complicated puzzles—ones that might even require the help of the internet.

I’m sharing the program here as a **proof of concept**.

The movement routines are 100% assembly. Everything else around it is in C.

I think this is pretty cool for a PoC.

I took a walkthrough and was actually expecting monsters around every corner. Your PoC has more atmosphere than quite a few finished games.

This is gorgeous, and I was impressed by the animation when moving. Really hoping it’ll get picked up for a full game…
