Show off your Amstrads!

I wanted to start a nice community thread where we can show off our setups!

This is the 464 I have owned since December 1985 (I recently found the monitor box in my parent’s loft, with the delivery sticker still on it. No 464 box unfortunately.)

At the recent UKAG meet in Surrey it was opened up for the very first time to have the drive belt replaced!

Recent (past year or two) purchases include the DK’Tronic 68k pack and the latest m4 from Duke. Superb additions to my kit!

I have the green screen monitor and TV modulator still, but thanks to the special leads you can buy now it will work on TVs or this Amiga monitor (I also found in the parent’s loft!) Fantastic!

One day I’ll get a 6128, just because it was what I always wanted (I got a 2nd hand Amiga 500 when I asked for the 6128 as an upgrade - a lot cheaper back in the early 90’s).

Anyway, I’ve shown mine, now you show yours!

That’s a nice setup:slightly_smiling_face: A real pleasure to look at!

Pity about the monitor flap, but eh, they’re all like that by now:grin:

I’ve got a 1084s with the panel still attached… and another with it broken off. The power button is more of a concern, and I also had to resolder the inputs on the back as they are a weak point.

Yeah, got two 1084s downstairs - one has the panel intact, surprisingly. On the other the panel is there but the retaining thingy has broken and the power button sticks…

Very nice setup, cheers.
BTW, I wonder how well that Commodore monitor handles scrolling on games like Relentless or Edge Grinder?

This is my setup, unfortunately not permanent.

Every now and then I play CPC games with the kids, but I think this may be the first time that we load them from tape, and it has been a great experience.

Vanity shot of “The Return of Traxtor” (my 9yo said we should start loading one of my games), then “The Trap Door” as the slowest loading game of the day (the loading screen takes already longer than other games took to fully load!), and “Werewolves of London” that is the one we got further today.

(the photos may not be in that order)

This is my Amstrad CPC that I bought in 2014 IIRC and kind of got me started making CPC games. I’ve used it to test all my games!

Thanks for the inspiration and I’d love to see more CPCs in this thread!

Nice collection of Dizzy games on cassette there.

All those AA covertapes make me wish I’d had the cash to buy more of them on disc from Ablex back in the day.

Your setups look great, too! Keep posting them everyone

Didn’t know they had made a Trap Door game. Any good?

It is alright. Moves a bit slower than the speccy version, but that’s OK

“Moves slower than the Spectrum version” is sadly true of a lot of CPC games without some optimization.

Ooh, go on then. Don’t really have the space for a dedicated CPC setup, but when I do have it set up, it lives here.

Could you not get it working on the large TV, rather than having to use the smaller CRT? Then it could be out permanently! Nice setup, though!

I’ve had the CPC464 big keys and its monitor since June 1985, and the DMP200 since March 1987. The rest (DDI, RAM Expansion, IDE interface, Light pen, AMX Mouse, etc.) are upgrades I’ve made since July 2014.

Nice! I wish I still had my dot matrix printer :frowning:

You really took good care of it

I could, but what you can’t see is that in one of the little cubby holes the big tv is on, is a GX4000 with a PicoGX

Congratulations to you all for being so old school. One thing I noticed is you’re all using original monitors or older CRT screens. Although I still have my original monitor, I found using a 21” scart LCD flatscreen more practical. The older Samsung work best, other makes of flatscreen don’t always recognise the AV signal automatically or just broadcast in black and white. I tend to steer clear of adding additional batteries or power adapters to correct this as it starts to get confusing as I’ve already have a mass of wires supporting various expansion devices and boards. Have fun you all

Well nothing beats the space a LCD screen takes up, but of course nothing beats the image a CRT gives with old machines…
