### Assets & Pipeline Involvement

None (Code-only or pure human assets)

### Project Notes & Prompts

I was always disappointed with how incredibly slow The Great Escape is compared with the Spectrum version.

Here is a much faster version, optimised with Claude.
Just watching the demo mode is lovely now. 🙂

This is a huge improvement. It looks about twice as fast, and much easier to look at. Seems like a winner to me.

Now speaking of slow and/or jerky old games, I wonder if somebody could have a go at speeding up H.A.T.E or fixing the janky screen update in Splat?

Whoo, that’s how it should have been. It was particularly slugish.

Here is Splat! running with improved scrolling. It’s not perfect, and there is a tiny glitch where the scroll meets the game border, but the scrolling is certainly a lot nicer now. I haven’t had a chance to play it a whole lot, so I don’t know how reliable the code is. [Splat\_smooth.dsk](https://forum.cpcwiki.eu/uploads/short-url/vAsFjwSH7aJFF6bgjQ9WjTmkxQv.dsk) (191.0 KB)

Good job ! I’m sure a full joypad version playable on GX4000 would be appreciated 😋

It would be really interesting to see a CPC conversion of the ZX version of “Where Time Stood Still”—a game that bears a striking resemblance to “The Great Escape.”

Indeed, I was always disappointed that I couldn’t play this game on the Amstrad; long live cpcrulez 😃

This is amazing! It’s a shame I didn’t see it this way back in the ’80s. It would be fantastic to make the most of all four colours and create something like this, or even better!
