From the audio I understand that golem13 made a car race game prototype? Video author says “coded in assembly, rest is AI”.

Fluidity is impressive. Is that real?

I put it in AI remake, but if this is real and code is made by a huma, it’s all the more impressive.

That engine looks like it could be the basis for a nice version of Lotus.

This prototype has previously been shown in [another topic](https://forum.cpcwiki.eu/t/cpc-plus-128-kb-ram-prototype/468). According to @XeNoMoRPH in [a post on the linked topic](https://forum.cpcwiki.eu/t/cpc-plus-128-kb-ram-prototype/468/12), it isn’t AI-assisted, but the commentary on the video above states that AI was used. 🤷‍♂️

AI-assisted or not, it would be fantastic to see this being developed into a full game!

I see no reason not to believe it’s real. I’ve been considering this for a while. If you fill the RAM with road segments and use the Plus screen split, possibly with line scrolling, there really isn’t any reason you shouldn’t be able to do a scrolling road without really needing to do any actual drawing.

The challenge is roadside scenery and cars, because you’ve only got a very limited number of sprites (and multiplexing is tricky) but this demo doesn’t seem to have a lot in those regards.

Yes, everything points to it being a great racing game!
Regarding the use of AI, the author recently posted this note on the original post on Facebook:

_“Some scenery is adapted from Marco Antonio del Campo’s sprites for Vespertino. The car was developed with AI assistance and manual edits, using Vespertino WR as a visual reference, mainly for the camera angle. These temporary graphics will be replaced with custom artwork.”_

The gfxs he refers to were taken from here:

We have followed the progress of that project almost since it began releasing videos, and at some point, we realized that it was using Vespertino gfxs for testing purposes.
Since we will soon be presenting Vespertino, which features these gfxs, we were concerned that the resemblance might cause confusion regarding their authorship. We therefore reached out to Golem13, who very kindly agreed to add a note to avoid any misunderstandings.

Ah, yes I’ve seen that thread, but didn’t realize it was the same.

Indeed that looks like a reasonable hypothesis.

We have seen this before in Sonic’s bonus level. A Plus machine really helps to achieve this. But for a good Lotus game much more moving objects at the side, even bridges above would be needed. I guess, this would also bring the Plus to its limits.

I have _ideas_ on that. I don’t think you have to entirely rule out the possibility you can use similar tricks. The GX essentially has a massive amount of video RAM so you could pre generate segments for some roadside objects as long as they don’t change too often and you give yourself enough frames to get them ready. Then you only need sprites for a handful of variety or to deal with complex objects on curves where line scrolling would mess them up.

So I don’t think it’s _entirely_ impossible. The AI Chase HQ 2 “demo” looks like it might be doing a bit of the for things like tunnels, which is one of the reasons I’d be curious about it.
