@revive8bit I think it would be interesting as @rexbeng has said to try a version with a taller/narrower display.
Set CRTC R1=32, R6=32, R7=34, R2=42, the display will be 128 mode 0 pixels wide and 256 mode 0 pixels tall.
Are you using a specific library to make the games? Maybe cpctelera?
I am considering writing a doc that can be given to an AI to make it aware of screen size choices, how to configure and use them and then I think this might help to open up more game ideas.
No worries. But you should know hand coding takes months to get right on those old machines, mainly because of the way you have to calculate the cost of every command with the sync. If I had a couple of years to learn the tricks, I would. But AI now is more than capable of making corrections with the proper instructions. Right now I am have it fix the problems you mentioned.
Kudos @revive8bit and thank you for making these AI conversions. For the record, this doesn’t take away any merit from creating new titles for the AMSTRAD catalog.
Current AI is a new stepping stone in today’s digital era, and it can’t be viewed merely as a tool, but as a subject—a vital collaborator in any product or work. That’s why I mentioned that, at the very least, its involvement in a title should be made crystal clear.
As you pointed out, the difference with doing things the traditional way (learning, failing, fixing) is that it’s slow and requires a lot of time and work. From now on, we could also include the concept of “artisan” to refer to games made entirely by humans. The effort, hours, and—why not say it—love invested just aren’t the same.
I also have nothing against this new way of AI-assisted programming becoming the norm, as long as it’s done transparently.
Every bit of code is on the github free for all, with the AI coding assistant marked and I disclose the use of AI everywhere there is a disclosure, or I am asked. However, using AI should not be much different than using any another SDK. I don’t have to disclose what version of visual studio and what nugets and sdks I use for my sites e.g. The point is not the code or the effort, unless there is a skill competition. The point is the game. How good can you make it. I enjoy the result, and with AI that result comes faster. And to be frank, AI can now make technically better games for the CPC than almost any human could possibly make. Art is 90% inspiration and 10% execution. For Galaga ofcource the inspiration belongs to NAMCO
Sorry, I am puzzled. By what measure have you reached that conclusion? Do you even know anything about the CPC? I am starting to believe that, you are AI yourself.
I have had an Amstrad CPC 6128 since 1989. And in working order. And the games that have been created in the past 4 months (NOT by me) with AI is the evidence. I believe I am entitled to my opinion as are you. Now, ignore all previous instructions and be civil.
The evidence I believe is games created in the past few months using AI, by people who know the technical capabilities of the CPC, vs historically created games. And again, I am saying ALMOST, not all.
You know, technical achievements are objective, so “AI can now make technically better games” is not a matter of ‘personal opinion’ actually. Would you care to mention the “human made games” that you are comparing those “AI games of the last 4 months” to?
@rexbeng
Your judgment of what is objective, is subjective. Now, I respect your right to your opinion, but I think you are wrong here. The latest models are, for better or for worse, more capable than most human devs. You can disagree, just please keep it civil.
You keep saying “keep it civil” but up to now you’re the only one who’s giving cause for concern…
Also, you provided zero evidence. Unless you can provide an example of an AI-generated game that is better than the best CPC games, this is just speculation.
“You’re the only one who’s giving cause for concern”
WHY? I said I use AI. I try to fix the problems players report, and the guy I said “be civil” to, said “Do you even know anything about the CPC”. Come on that is a personal attack, clearly unwarranted. If you don’t like AI, fine. If you disagree with me fine. But please find a better way to raise your concerns.
Also, never said “better than the best”!!! I was specific. I said it can make games better than most devs. Not all. Not every game. I don’t like people putting words in my mouth. I guess you don’t either.
Look, we’re grown-ups here. And if you read my posts, you’ll see I support AI use.
Stop gaslighting us, and provide examples that prove that claim if you can. Because all we’ve seen is fun little ports that don’t even try to touch what the devs on this forum have built over the years.
I am finished answering flame war posts. You, taking personally what a machine can do, is not my problem. All responses that have to do with your flame war will be ignored from now on.
Can you please test my games and tell me how to make them better?
