Please consider using a Passkey to login

Great to have this wonderful community forum back. The new software offers a lot of new functionality which as we get used to it will only help to drive conversation.

In setting up my profile here (and some posts that @Gryzor has posted) there are a number of options around how you sign-in. I’d like to suggest that people use a Passkey rather than a password to login. These are considerably more secure that passwords and well help with the overall security of the forum. They’re easy to setup and it makes it easier to login too. Plus no password to remember (although I’m sure you’re all using password safes ) .

Initially you will need to set up a password for access to the forum. Once you’ve done that though you can configure a Passkey under Profile/Preferences/Security. When you have setup the Passkey don’t forget to delete the password so it can’t be used by bad actors!

If you can’t / don’t want to do that; at the very least enable Two-Factor Authentication or use GitHub or Google where these options are most likely enforced already!

That’s a great point, and I’m really glad we have all these sign in options to choose from.

Did you use passkeys? Do they work? That’s one of the things I haven’t checked yet.

By the way, no matter what option you choose to sign up, you can also connect your other accounts (Google/GitHub/Discourse) as well.

Yep, as soon as I saw you could do it I took a look. Added the Passkey and deleted my password. Works really well.
