Do we really have no way of sharing stuff like this outside those walled garden platforms like facebook, instagram or twitter? I have no account on either and don’t want one and they severely limit what one can see (without an account) and nudge you into registering - which is super annoying and needless. I just want to see some content that’s online.

Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate that this is being shared in general and I am happy to learn about conventions and meetups and project announcements or updates, but these platforms just suck and don’t work well for anyone who’s not registered.

So, let me reiterate: Is there really no way to share all of this without using the dreaded three (fb, ig, X)? What about alternatives like Mastodon, Pixelfed, Bluesky?

I agree in principle, bit what’s the user base of those apps…

I would love to share something different, but the organizers don’t have a website. I myself don’t use Facebook and very barely use Twitter.

Same here. I avoid closed platforms as much as possible. This includes Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest etc.

I guess one has to know about computers and networks to be able to create and maintain a blog or an open website.

…or a, god forbid, forum?

The thing is, there are alternatives to all of those big platforms, like in the fediverse. I admit I am not using any of that a lot myself, just tried mastodon once. But yes, it’s a hen-egg-problem I think. Those alternatives are barely used, so what’s the point posting there, I get that. I am just so sad to see what (this part of) the web has become with fb, X or ig around. It was much more open 20 years ago and those suckers just use the infrastructure (which we all pay for, in a way) while creating those annoying walled-gardens, I really hate it. :man_shrugging:
