The music is really good - but it was not done via AI. This is a strong contrast to the rest of the demo:
- low framerate: only the shade bobs reach 50 Hz, everything else is 25 Hz or slower
- empty screens: only the rasters are overscan, everything else is standard screen; often, large parts of the screen are black
- some effects can easily be achieved with a small BASIC program (tunnel, a really bad plasma)
- bad optimization of effects; much more would have been possible
- star field: about 40 stars, 1000 NOPs/byte
- zooming spheres: 24 spheres, 8x14 pixels, 29 NOPs/byte
- satellites: ~64 satellites, 624 NOPs/byte
- shade bobs: 5 parallel bobs, 11x22 pixels, 30 NOPs/byte
- fountain: ~90 particles, 443 NOPs/byte
- the worst rubber bar ever
- polishing is missing almost everywhere
In the early days of CPC demos there might be some demos/intros comparable to this. But there is a difference:
- old demos were more something like logos for cracker groups, a byproduct
- done in a hurry
- without good manuals, more based on intuition and rumors
More than this is expected today!
On his blog the “author” (maybe better the “orderer”) describes, how this demo was created:
The idea is simple: you give a piece of music to an AI and ask it to create a demo. It analyzes the music, chooses effects that fit the mood, and synchronizes everything. […] I immediately had the […] reaction […]: “And what would it be like on the CPC?”
To be honest, I was torn between two extremes: on the one hand, I wanted to be blown away and see an extraordinary demo emerge, and on the other, I hoped for a mediocre result. I still clung to the hope that humans still held a monopoly on creativity and inventiveness. The result is somewhere in between.
Some more general thoughts from my side: Sooner or later AI probably will reach and outperform the quality of demos developd by mere mortals. Currently, this is definitely not the case, and maybe there will be some years (or at least one) where we can still admire the art of demo making.
After this period, everybody with enough money to buy tokens can create as many high-level demos as wanted. The same will be true for images, videos, music, anything else. I’m certain that this is not a bright perspective for our future. People will be isolated from each other, AI will produce (and control) everything.
