Thanks! I don’t have an Amstrad CPC anymore, but I like playing on original hardware, so it’s awesome playing them on the GX4000
(sorry if my Spanish isn’t very good
)
You’re welcome. Perfect Spanish! (but actually is “gracias” and “lo”
)
Let’s keep up with the latest news: this time, @urusergi offers us a GX4000 patch for the new, AI-boosted version of:
THE GREAT ESCAPE
from OCEAN
Controls:
- J1B1 = Action
- J1B1+UP = Pick up
- J1B1+DOWN = Drop
- J1B1+LEFT/RIGHT = Use an objet
- Pause button = Pause/unpause (J1B2 to quit game)
Since there are some masochists among you
, as @urusergi has noted, he’s even offering the same patch for the original, rather sluggish version. This serves as an update to the previous release, which was far from perfect. Plus, there are some new features: @urusergi has gone all out to provide infinite morale, along with a fix that prevents the loss of 8 morale points when picking up the first item. What a guy!
Modifications for this GX4000 version:
- Wait for fire on title screen;
- All keys patched;
- Main screen and ingame text modified;
- You no longer lose 8 morale points when you pick up the first item;
- Poke : Infinite morale.

Hello everyone!
I am happy to present the GX4000 version of RECON, my latest little game written in BASIC.
Two enemy camps take turns fighting each other.
Each camp hides two soldiers in its zone.
Your mission: locate and eliminate both enemy soldiers.
If a shot misses its target, the distance in meters to the nearest enemy soldier is revealed.
Use the joypad to move, then press fire to shoot.
Victory goes to the camp that eliminates both enemy soldiers first.
Use the distance clues, trust your instincts, and eliminate the enemy threat! ![]()

That logo is amazing! That ‘gradient’ effect with the use of blues is very representative of the time.
Titus had talented graphists, yes. This one is from Florent MOREAU or Philippe PAMART.
And I had even forgotten how vibrant that loading screen is! Damn, we need a gallery… and also the possibility to look at an enlarged version of a pic upon clicking on it… @Gryzor ?
Sorry for the derailing ![]()
Refresh and click again on the titlescreen thumbnail ![]()
Can you run for president please ? ![]()
Have you tried, you know, clicking on it? Either with the left button on that thing that’s called “a mouse” or with the left button on that rectangular thing called “trackpad” on your laptop.
I did, but I only got the tiny version the first time. Dunno if ixien did sth.
He probably uploaded a tiny pic the first time.
We can (brace yourself) use AI to upscale images when they’re small ![]()
Yes, at first it was the picture in its original size. Athough, I was already planning to use x4 sized picrutre for the next upload
Ai, seriously, what was the idea behind that
?
Sorry, is that tAIto? ![]()
thanks ![]()
These its a prototype of the laser squad with spectrum homebrew levels.
Instead of uploading it to the forum as usual, since it’s something that’s going to be long-term, I made a folder for it on my Mega account.
A few little things:
The only extra level from the Russian guys was Mafia, which has a horrible palette haha.
The music that plays is music created by a group called Neighbors Masters that I rescued from one of those TR-DOS Laser Squad disks.
It supports PicoGX not just for load/save, it also saves the configuration in options and loads it automatically at boot.
The SLS patches are fixes that the Russian guys made to the game engine. Or at least they tried.
The AI improved: the AI of Laser Squad follows a bunch of nodes along the map, they walk from node to node. In Mafia they changed the map, but they didn’t change the nodes table, so several nodes are inside a wall. When the Laser Squad AI tries to go to one of these nodes, they can’t arrive to it because it’s inside a wall, so they start spinning 360° not knowing where to go. So this patch moves the nodes to the next free cell.
Know problems: in mafia the ram of the cpc was out for all the sprites of the spectrum,so i want to choose of litte table and all walls, or two long table and rehuse the sprites in low corners of the wall.
