Hi.
I recently bought a Toshiba FDD6475R1K 5.25” double-density floppy drive on eBay. The drive looks good, but I can’t get it to work with my CPC464 and DDI-4 clone.
I placed a jumper between RY and IX on J14 for the “Ready” signal, but when I try to access it, it says “Disk missing.” If I jumper the “Ready” signal on the cable itself, the CPC freezes when I try to access the drive.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks.
P.S. The jumpers currently installed fit securely, but all the ones I’ve tried for the “Ready” signal end up being loose.
Some of the the jumpers are defined in the zip at: VOGONS Vintage Driver Library
But not all. Maybe some others in that doc might help.
Does the disc motor turn on? If it does it sounds like the index pulse is not getting to the Amstrad and it’s freezing.
Thanks for the link.
Tjere are several other jumper groups scattered across the board. Looking closely at PJ14, there is one labeled “RY IX” (Ready?). However, I can’t seem to get any jumper to stay in place or ensure it’s making proper contact. I’m attaching photos of the original jumpers (indicated by the arrow) and the “standard” ones. Does anyone know what kind of jumpers these are?
The strand of wire visible in the second photo is an attempt to narrow the connector opening to see if it fits.
Maybe trace the pins from the ics to the jumpers:
The TC8600F.pdf is there. I can’t find the TA8502 yet.
Finally, I made two jumpers using copper wire:
- On PJ13: DI to DG (it looks a bit odd
) - On PJ14: RY to RD
Also, on the data ribbon cable: pin 34 (Ready) to pin 10 (Motor On A).
And… it works, though forcing the Ready signal and accessing the floppy drive without a disk inserted causes the CPC to freeze.
