LambdaSpeak AI is coming

Hi there,

it’s been a while. Just a quick announcement - LambdaSpeak AI will be released later this year. It will be OpenSource. “AI” is there for a reason - Claude code assisted.

First demo video:

Features so far:

  • all of LambdaSpeak 3, but everything emulated by a single RP2350b
    • DECtalk and SP0256-AL2 are emulated faithfully; both sound like the original
    • Amdrum, LambdaDrum, MP3, RTC, …
    • Serial Interface
  • New
    • MIDI IN/OUT DIN sockets
    • ROM emulation:
      • brings its own DK’tronics speech synth ROM
      • four more slots for arbitrary ROMs
      • can be loaded via USB cable from the PC (simple loader program exists)
      • this will eventually also host @TFM 's LS3 ROM, but an updated version of it
    • PCM sound mode:
      • LambdaDrum extended. 8 channels instead of 4, higher quality
    • Much better audio quality
    • PlayCity emulation
  • Costs:
    • 35 to 50 $
  • Next revision:
    • Maybe disk and ext. RAM emulation

RetroChallenge:

Cheers,

Mikel

Hello,

Could it play .MID files directly from storage instead of using converted MIDI files ? With api/rsx to load, play, pause, stop maybe ?

That’s a good idea. Although decoding GM MIDI files can be tricky for the CPC… so you think that the LambdaSpeak firmware could help with that? I’ll think about it, thanks for the suggestion!

PlayCity emulation would be absolutely incredible! Then everything would truly be on a single board.

Maybe it would be possible to improve the data transfer so that the LS AI notices when a byte has been read. It wouldn’t just be faster, but above all more reliable, since no bytes would be missed. Whether that’s possible, no idea. Probably depends on the hardware speed too.
Best of luck with this cool project, I’ll keep supporting it just like always

HI @TFM yes, that has already been achieved - the board recognizes IO READ requests now. There is a new protocol now that doesn’t require all that fast and slow getter stuff.

Personally, I’d like to get to a board that has everything I care about so I will only need one card for all my needs. And that would also include a proper DSK emulation. RAM ext. is not so important to me, but ROM (and this is already working).

Regarding RAM, I’ve had a great idea for a year now, but let’s talk about that via email. Maybe you could pull that off with the super AI.

Awesome that IO Read is working, that streamlines a lot :-)))
