Nascar CPC 512K by MLH

Meaning…?

Moving to AI category.

Sorry it was a joke. It was a reference to the old Arthur C Clarke maxim “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”.

As in “Any sufficiently advanced autism is indistinguishable from AI”.

Still not getting the logic of the joke…

I’ll just stick to cheap knob gags instead. They go down better Oh err missus

@Nich I see on your site that you’ve purchased this to see how good/bad it is (I’m being kind there, adding the “good” part). Any chance of your thoughts here having played it?

As a racing game, I don’t think the gameplay is terrible. It’s just that it’s really badly presented, with awful, blocky graphics. The track has the appearance of scrolling very fast, but I think that’s due to rapid colour cycling and the almost total lack of any scenery, and the sides of the track look like they’re drawn using Lego bricks. In that respect it looks almost like an Atari 2600 game. On the positive side, the music on the title screen isn’t bad.

As for the enormous amount of RAM it requires, the files take up 121KB of disc space - so how come it needs 512KB of RAM?

Overall, Nascar CPC is not a total travesty like Grand Prix Driver, but it looks and plays like a CPC game from 1985.

There are hundreds of, potentially, legit reasons why that may be. The game may use pre-shifted sprites, but only store a single version on disk then shift variations on load. It may need large buffers to decompress data into or may generate large tables to speed up calculations, but do so on the fly at startup if the code is smaller.

Thank you! The author made out that there was an incredibly deep game game in there, but it absolutely doesn’t sound like it. I’m sorry for your (money) loss.
