RolandRadio is back!

Nilquader died on August 23, 2015. Exactly 11 years later, RolandRadio rises again.

After nearly three years of downtime, the RolandRadio.net website is finally online again. Our streaming server had also stopped working, and following some changes to the electrical infrastructure, the playout server failed to come back online — leaving RolandRadio completely silent for several months.

Over the past few days, we’ve brought everything back to life. The streaming and playout servers are up and running again, and the RolandRadio.net platform has received a major technical overhaul: we’ve upgraded from Laravel 7 and PHP 7.3 to Laravel 12 and PHP 8.5.

So, after a rather long break, we’re finally ready to go again!

Over the coming weeks, we’ll continue working on RolandRadio and give our platform — originally built back in 2020 — some much-needed updates to bring it into 2026. There are several improvements and new features planned, while keeping the spirit of RolandRadio exactly where it belongs: celebrating the unique sound of the Amstrad CPC.

Stay tuned, join us for the comeback, and look forward to many more years of great Amstrad CPC chiptunes.

RolandRadio.net is back on air!

RolandRadio got an update

Over the past few days we’ve been cleaning things up behind the scenes and made a few improvements that should make a real difference for you:

  • Homepage news preview: The homepage now shows a preview of the latest posts right away.
  • More reliable ratings & comments: Star ratings and comments now give you clear feedback on whether they went through.
  • Fewer error pages: Fixed a few spots where the site could crash with an error page in certain cases (e.g. “My Ratings”).
  • Reworked listener stats: The listener stats page now loads noticeably faster. We’ve also added two new charts that let you compare listener numbers by hour and by month across every year since 2020.
  • Faster overall: Sped up several other parts of the site behind the scenes, especially the charts and title pages.
  • Improved security: Closed several security gaps we found during an internal review.

We’ve also modernized the site’s technical foundation — you won’t notice much of that day to day, but it’ll help us ship new features and fixes faster going forward.

Thanks for listening to RolandRadio! If you notice anything that’s not working right, feel free to let us know via the comment feature.
