Hi folks.
At work, I’m famous for my stance on AI.
I don’t like it, and I don’t want it in this world.
However, I’ve been told in a polite yet firm way that I’d better get on board, as I am a database dev at a large corporation, and they have… expectations.
Fine. Whatever.
So I thought I’d do a quick bit of messing about with Claude to see how well it can handle Locomotive Basic. Turns out it handles it very well. Cripes.
With the Sultan’s Maze source code to hand, I asked Claude to REM out the commands that draw the vertical lines on the hedges. That worked, and did indeed make the game a bunch more playable.
But there was still a very noticeable pause between each segment of the maze as the screen was being built up. I know exactly which part of the code does all this, but I asked Claude to check it out, pre-calc things, mess with algorithms etc. And the difference is very impressive.
The last thing I wanted to improve was the speed of the map screen, which is very slow to draw. It is much faster now.
Two downsides…
-
The “Making Maze, Please Wait” screen takes longer than it did before, due to pre-calcs being performed.
-
There could be bugs. I can’t be bothered spending more time with Claude tonight to properly test everything and debug any mistakes.
Enjoy!
