[wip] "Immersed", an ambitious and surprising game by cpcitor (early teaser)

Hi everyone,

:construction_worker_man: Thanks Gryzor for rebuilding the wiki, a temporary victory against the universe’s disorder. Thank you all for the conversations.

:red_question_mark: After much hesitation I decided to tease a little about the production I’ve been working on (some time thinking, short periods working in front of the computer writing a backstory, writing some code). Wow, I had the image below sitting in my files since… July 2020.

:gem_stone: It will be a high-quality prod: attention to detail, performance, etc, like I did with my previous prods e.g. Just Get 9 and Sunny Day. And by “performance” I do not mean that I can write bytes faster than PUSH but I’ll explore unusual combinations of the graphics/gameplay/framerate/tricks compromises, give a chance to “less explored” parts of the “envelope of possibilities” of our beloved Amstrad CPC.

Anyway enough talk. See the teaser below.

I’d be really happy if you (yes, you reading this) could provide some feedback (also a like maybe  :+1:?):

What does this image evoke? :globe_showing_europe_africa: Place? :hourglass_not_done: Era? Mood? Context? :exploding_head: Mindset?

  • Does it remind you of previous art, :books: books, :film_projector: movies, :musical_notes: music, or does it remind you of anything really? (Anything e.g. “This reminds me of :shallow_pan_of_food: Roman pottery” is an acceptable answer.)
  • Do you like it? Dislike it? Is it surprising? Why?
  • Can you guess how I created this image? (and before anyone asks, no AI, it was July 2020)

What kind of game do you imagine behind this screen? :alien_monster:

  • What kind of backstory for this game? :person_playing_handball: (I have one, elaborate, I’m curious to see how much guesses match).
  • Anything else you wish to say?

For more mood, you might want (or not, to not be primed) to scrutinize the image while listening to one of these music tracks:

Thank you for your upcoming feedback!

As soon as I saw the image, the Umbrella Corporation from the Resident Evil movie popped into my head. It could be a survival game or something like that, or maybe some kind of zombie arcade game :grin:

My very first thought was “Total Eclipse” on the CPC, followed by, like @XeNoMoRPH, Resident Evil, due to the almost biohazard-like symbol in the middle of the pyramid

I like the colour scheme, the dark blue, yellow and black go together beautifully, with the texture of the blue making the pyramid stand out nicely.

Along the same lines I immediately thought some sort of Chernobyl type theme.

I thought of a driving game set in the UK, possibly Swindon, home of the ‘Magic Roundabout’…

ok I was just joking…

initially it felt like game takes place where there is lots of radiation and chemicals…

Some kind of horror / psycho game. The title screen reminds me of a biohazard or nuclear warning sign - maybe warning for the horrors that are waiting behind a door or portal where a player entering the zone will be drawn inward and become immersed.

Based on the music int could also be something relaxing or something like Myst where I am drawn into a different world.

I love the art. It immediately draws my attention and makes me curious what this will be…

For me, it’s more a Dan Brown kind of thing… Illuminaty / Franc Macon like.
Or something completly different… Louvre pyramid.

This, too, reminds me of The Hive in Resident Evil (place: underground, darkness/black, structure more like a 3D map than real sight; era: mid future; mood: a hidden mystery / warning / danger).

With a much ligther colorway and in combination with the word “immersed” it would remind me of a complex network structure in cyber space.

Staying with the dark colorway this could also be a large structure under water. This would also match both music tracks. I imagine floating and slow movements.

This image is interesting because it does not immediately reveal what it is about. Due to the limited resolution and color space of a CPC usually images are quite direct. The one above leaves a mystery.

Creation: This could be a generated 3D grid structure with decreasing brightness at its borders. The warning sign probably is an overlay (color inversion and color shift). Maybe the grid is the game’s map?

Possible backstory: Examine a (probably dangerous) mystery in a mazelike facility.

Anything else: The threefold symbol on the warning sign somehow reminds me of something. Maybe a particle collider with three sources or three measurement devices?
