Would it be able to change the French 6128 plus to english keyboard?

Hi,

I am still looking for a 6128 plus to add to my collection. Unfortunately the only available ones are the french versions with the AZERTY keyboard.

Comparing both keyboards, then english and french version, I could mod the keyboard (e.g. replace the keys). However some keys are entirely different and might not exist.

What about the key hight on the 6128 plus. Are all keys in all rows the same hight, so could I exchange just the A key with the Q key? or are the different hight?

They are (unfortunately) not the same height/angle.

But you could try the normal 6128 keys instead. If I am not mistaken, the keyboard is identical.

What about the PCW 9512 keyboard keys?

An example I found on ebay.

Last year I had a 6128 Plus, and that one had stickers over the keys to make it QWERTY, if can find the photos I will put them up.

Uhh … no stickers. Thanks for the suggestion, but I hate stickers. I had some on my CPC in the late 80s for some geman keys, which I actually never used

Thanks ETO, yes I think the layout of the 6128 is pretty much identical, however I am not sure if really the same keys.

Will do some more research on it. And it also would need to sacrifice a 6128 for that, which is also an option I do not like too much.

Would it be worth looking for a 6128+ UK keyboard on its own as “spares”?

Even then, that way if it doesn’t work, you’ll still have a full set of uk caps to put on your working keyboard and the one that doesn’t will be able to go on “the pile” to be fixed later?

Probably that would work, however I never have seen a 6128+ or 464+ keyboard as standalone.

For something like this, it’s often a matter of waiting for one to come up, or asking around and hoping someone’s got spare parts.

Over the last 5 years I saw exactly once that someone sold replacement keyboards for the Plus.

I was lucky enough to get one from him and swapped my FR to a UK keyboard.

Was that a new keyboard, or was that just a keyboard ripped from a dead machine?

Official NOS replacement part.

would love to get my hand on it … never seen any.

Buy this 464 Plus and cannibalize the keyboard. (Reminder: Retrobright works great with the Plus)

Thanks for the catch.

It looks like someone did exactly the same job - took a french machine and exchanged some keys.
